What happened
- North Korea attacked South Korea
- UN forces pushed North Koreans back up,
- But got too close to China, who pushed back
- Un pushed Chinese and N. Koreans back up the to the 38th parallel, when a cease fire occured
- Forces were mainly American (+16 other states)
- forces reported to Truman, under leadership of US General MacArthur
Results
- Nothing much changed
- brought around the Uniting For Peace Resolution
- USSR blamed Trgve Lie for swift action - pressured him to resign
Success or Failure
Success
- pushed agression back
- actual action occured
- collective security occured - set precendent
- 16 countries involved
Failure
- didn't unite country
- mainly US operation
- time of COld war, only because it was against the communists that US got involved
- Only because of absence of Russia in Security Council, were troops allowed to be sent (they were protesting the fact that Communist China would not be recognised by UN)
- Not much time given to negotiations
